From the introduction:

As we began the project in a spare room, a sacred energy carried us through three and a half weeks of cutting out pictures, tearing up magazines, talking, laughing, praying, gluing and ungluing pieces of paper on twelve 8 ½ x 11 sheets of copy paper. Sometimes working in collaboration, sometimes individually, we found inspiration through the grace of our own holy walk.

The icons that emerged embraced a passion for social justice through the lens of Christ’s own passion. We soon realized that our initial desire to improve our private Lenten journey had the potential to be shared with the Christian community. We began to replicate the originals and mount them with their titles and the scripture passages which inspired them.

In 2006, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) had these colages made into vinyl banners for use at their triennial youth gathering, where they were seen by almost 40,000 youth. ELCA donated the banners to the peaceCENTER at the conclusion of the gathering. They are printed on heavy vinyl and each measures 3’ wide x 7’ long. There are 10 metal grommets along the edges so that the banners can be hung, indoors or out-of-doors. The banners are available as a traveling exhibit, as a fundraiser for the peaceCENTER. We suggest a $500 donation (this is negotiable!), plus shipping, packing and insurance. For more information, or to reserve the banners, contact Rosalyn, rosalyncollier@ juno.com.  Download a 2-color brochure about the banners. Tabletop versions are also available.
